Disturbed............Yet...Extremely Aroused

I JUST finished this book, and I must say, it was excellent indeed. So much so that I feel compelled to review it. I'm soooo glad I bought AHF.

I was very skeptical at first about purchasing it. *Sidenote* (BSB-You really need to reevaluate your pricing. Not Every book you put out is worth 9.99. Just saying--but that's real talk. These are sketchy times and a girl's gotta eat, read, and buy cute accessories. I've been taking my chances on more economical reads lately-and there are plenty of good ones out there.)

Nonetheless, I'm absolutely ecstatic with THIS purchase. I was doubly hesitant about buying due to the context. The Mommy/little girl concept threw me, and I've read quite a bit of BDSM. Didn't think that dynamic would interest me. However, it was lovely and amazing! I was hooked by the second page. It had me LOLing quite frequently and immediately aroused and blushing in the next instant. I never thought I'd like something like it, but I was riveted by the romance between Suzy & her Mami. This was a rare D/s tale in which, oddly, I could see myself in either the H/h role. It was a most pleasant surprise. The bondage and pain aspect of it was just the right amount. Not too much or over the top and always with nuanced descriptions of Suzy's psychological state. Although it was written in first person, the other characterizations were well fleshed out. Mami had the most nurturing nature. Liam was an excellent friend. One of Suzy's playmates (I won't spoil it by saying who) is nicely redeemed. Even though I started with reservations, somewhere along the way, I realized Suzy's relationship with her Mami was pretty much like any other relationship in the life. It was just a different kind of special...

I've read 2 of Weatherspoon's other books (the 2 in her vamp series-and they're decent-I've read AT LEAST one book from probably a couple hundred different vamp series, so I'm super hard to impress on that front), but I can definitely see how her craft has progressed and continues to improve. I think she hit a bull's eye on this erotic romance. I loved watching how the love-albeit quickly-evolves between Suzy & Mami P. The ending was quick and easy without being rushed, and it left me feeling gratified.

Final Thoughts: Would I recommend this one? Oh, absolutely. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll notice I read a lot, and my choices are ALL over the place. Not just lesbian, not just erotica or romance even. I generally CRINGE at 1st person stories and series based on one character/couple. This is one of those stories that I truly look forward to reading again. Not only that, I also actually wouldn't mind reading more about Suzy & Pilar's sexcapades. So...In case you're still wondering.. BUY. THIS. BOOK!!! You won't be disappointed. Unless you have something against D/s, ridiculously, incredibly fantastic g-o-g sex, or a hot multicultural cast of characters, you'll be satisfied with the decision.

A very touching love story

This book introduced me to the world of Mommies and their little girls, but that was only part of it. This variation on D/s was a whopping eye-opener for me and the primary couple was beyond fantastic. I apologize, but I need to publicly extol both Rebekah Weatherspoon and Bold Strokes Books right up front. I cannot personally vouch for the accuracy of this lifestyle as presented, but I can praise to the universe the 110 percent believability of the women depicted and spot on lifelike tangibility of the high powered work scenario.

Suzanne Kim has a Korean father and a Jamaican mother, but that wonderfully and tenderly rarely becomes an issue...a truly remarkable testament to the author. Suzy needs to find a Mommy and she knows her way around the `digital world' so she plans out a highly commendable strategy and off she goes. The account of her previous Domme is somewhat horrific, but it only goes to show how spectacular Suzy's new relationship is right from the start. If I had a `little girl', I would really want Suzy to be her best friend.

Pilar attaches a photo depicting a gorgeous Latin woman along with her elegantly brief posting on Kinklife.com that speaks right to Suzy's heart and probably dozens of others. From the start through the essential crisis moment, Pilar and Suzy's relationship provided a fabulously engaging, provocative, and soul-stirring story. I love it when I cannot put down what I am reading for almost anything and this book easily fit the bill. It would be an honor to have Pilar as a friend or associate. She was amazing and oh so human.

Let me say without hesitation that everyone should read this story. However, probably folks who are more comfortable with sexually provocative f/f and D/s relationships will be completely satisfied. Nevertheless, I cannot imagine anyone with an open heart, curious nature, or passion for reading not enjoying this magnificent book. I am going to be redundant and say I totally recommend this!

Loved It

I loved this book. It was a wonderful love story. It was sweet, sexy and down right hilarious at times. I wasn't sure I could get into the story based on the specific type of Dom/Sub relationship but I totally did. The sex scenes were HOT and frequent with just the right amount of kink. I really liked the main characters and there chemistry. This author is one of my favorites. The first book I read of her's was Better Off Red - (the BEST vampire story I've ever read) and I've been hooked on her ever since. I'm already looking forward to whatever's next...

The "fundamentals" part in its title is totally true, it covers the foundation level of requirements engineering, no less, no more. Though there are plenty of topics and concepts in this book, I think it does not go deep into any of them, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I rate this book with 4 stars because it was all I had to study to pass the CPRE FL exam, so it served its purpose. However, it's not the book I'd recommend to someone who was looking for a practice guide or learn more about RE than the average people in the industry. All the examples in the book, including the UML diagrams, are for dummies, that's annoying.

Batgirl and Catwoman fans will LOVE this.

For starters, "Batman Confidential: The Bat and The Cat" trade paperback does not star Batman. Batgirl is clearly the star of this outing, and Catwoman is her delicious foil as the two femme fatales fight each other -- and a horde of super villains -- to retrieve a vitally important notebook. (Batman does turn up here and there, and his appearances are indeed memorable.)

The art here is quirky and fun -- not the sexpot versions of these character readers are mostly familiar with. The story is light and enjoyable, though there are a few more "adult" moments that I would not allow a child under 10 years to see.

Overall, this is a great read for teens and adults. And it's a steal at Amazon's price! Let's hope there are more Batgirl/Catwoman team-ups where this one came from. They are both extraordinary female characters, and they deserve this kind of stellar treatment.

Totally cool

The Cat and the Bat mainly centers around Batgirl and Catwoman - and the action / pace of the story is very entertaining to read.

It's mostly an action story, not focusing too much on mystery or character development - but it is still a cool edition for any Batman fan to own.

...and there's an awesome scene where Batgirl and Catwoman circumstantially wind up naked...

...seriously right? Awesome.

I would give it 4 and 1/2 but there's no half star systems here. It's a fun read and the art was decent. For any Batgirl and Catwoman fans that dream of the two getting into an epic battle!

For "Children of All Ages"...a MUST HAVE BOOK FOR THE GENERATIONS!

If I had to pick one book I could not live without, perhaps the Bible first, but this would come in a close second. A true "children's book for all ages", it explains the circle of life so simply, so beautifully, and with such warmth and tenderness. My own version of this book is very old now, having been read over many, many times. I recently got two others, for my children and hopefully, their children. It touches hearts of both young and old with the story of the inquisitive Freddie, a young leaf observing the other leaves as they grow older and eventually fall from the tree. As he asks about what is happening, the explanations are so touching and easily relate to life in general. The photography is stunning and the story will capture the hearts of all those looking for simple, tender explanations into the intricacies of life and death. A must for anyone with children, especially those who have suffered a loss. For me, personally, I think it is as captivating and healing for adults, as well.
A perennial favorite, while I am a huge Leo Buscalia fan, I simply adore this book most of all.

Beautiful way to capture the loss of a loved one

I received this book first from my grandmother and read it to my children to them when she died just as she did with me when my great grandmothers passed away.

Recently I purchased this to give to a friend whose little girl has experienced her sisters, great grandmother, and grandfather all passing away this year . It's something that stayed with me and I think it's something everyone needs to read at least once

A perfect gift for a child who's lost a loved one

Bought this book upon rocommendation from a friend (who had received it when he was a child after his sister passed away) for another friend whose husband had recently passed (they have two young children). I read through it after it arrived and thought it was very poignant, well written, and comforting. It made me cry because it is just so sweet and meaningful. My friend says that she and her children love it too and that they want to read through it with her nearly every night. I will always keep this book in mind for anyone with children experiencing the death of a loved one.

Talks all ABOUT Thomas, without ever SHOWING you Thomas!

I got more than halfway through this book before I realized I was still waiting for it to actually start. After giving a quite solid short biography of Thomas Aquinas, the author then launches into Thomas' method, his genius, his style, the way he responded to his critics, etc. etc. He tells you about what Thomas says and how he says it... but almost NEVER GIVES YOU ANY CONCRETE EXAMPLES. (I believe I found two direct quotations total, before I quit reading.) You might compare this to a book that describes Michelangelo's artwork, his style, his innovation, his animated and muscular figures--but without showing you any actual pictures. How much can you really learn without seeing the real thing?
Naturally a reader would exclaim, "Don't just tell me--show me!"
The back cover claims that "there is no better introduction to St. Thomas Aquinas than this classic work," but I'm wondering if the book would make more sense to someone who was already acquainted with at least some of his writings? As a Dominican, Sertillanges probably knew Aquinas inside out and upside down, and so maybe he was presuming too much advance knowledge on the part of his readers.
I had high hopes for this work, having read the author's "What Jesus Saw From the Cross" and loved it. This definitely isn't in the same league--skip it.
Can someone please suggest an introductory work on Aquinas that references his writings? I'd love to read it.

"Fides quaerens intellectum"

This Book is for all, but especially and specifically for the student. Acquinas is seeking TRUTH. Human Reason is one of his tools. He starts from "ground level" i.e. fundamental principles of thinking. These are absolutely essential. If you haven't grasped these principles, Acquinas is not for you. Then the second tool: Faith. This really is a gift. But it is the dispenser of TRUTH as is Human REASON. Faith and Reason cannot contradict each other. Once you have tasted the sweetness of TRUTH, your life will be changed. Read this Book by A.G. Sertillanges and you will be encouraged and I hope inflamed with an insatiable thirst. The more you drink at the 'pool of TRUTH, the more you want to drink. Quenching the thirst only aggravates the thirst. Knowledge and Understanding are things of the Spirit. Read Acquinas and find out about the Human spirit, the Soul of Man. Sertillanges will lead you along the path. He knows what he is doing- he has tasted it all himself!! A word of warning. To search for Truth is one thing: to find and taste it quite another. Plough the rock- ...plough, ...plough...until it produces the crop.
Acquinas is the man to study and read!!! He will take you to the "fertile fields". Vale!

About the Author
Guitar players may not recognize Joe Carr's name at first, but his face is probably familiar. That's because he appears in over 20 instructional guitar videos ranging from country to western swing, bluegrass and even heavy metal! Add to these his videos on mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and ukulele and Joe may be the most recorded video music instructor anywhere. Joe is a self-taught musician originally from Denton, Texas who started guitar at age 13, inspired by the folk musicians of the 1960's. A few years later, he was hired to play guitar in Alan Munde's internationally known bluegrass group, Country Gazette. Over the next six years Joe recorded 3 group albums, numerous sideman projects and produced his own critically acclaimed solo guitar album, Otter Nonsense. Joe left the Country Gazette in 1984 and joined the music faculty in the unique commercial music program at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. Throughout the 1990s he continued to record and perform with former Gazette leader and South Plains College colleague Alan Munde. In addition to two albums on the Flying Fish label, Joe and Alan have published an award-winning book about West Texas Country Music called Prairie Nights to Neon Lights from the Texas Tech University Press. Joe is editor of Mel Bay's Mandolin Sessions� and Ukulele Sessions� webzines and is also a regular columnist for Flatpicking Guitar magazine and Mandolin Magazine. He was awarded the International Bluegrass Music Association's Distinguished Achievement award in 2008.

I Love This Book / Joe Carr's Books

A "beginning" intermediate player, I know more than cowboy chords, first position, but have yet to play lead or connect the bits of basic skills and knowledge. This book and CD are addicting.

The book is easy to follow, but still challenging enough to be rewarding when I "get it." I feel like I'm actually going somewhere with my skills now. The whole book seems laid out really well - easy to follow, not too complicated, and it all makes sense. The skills taught are basic and generic, but interesting, and very useable once learned. Mr. Carr breaks the lessons and examples down into segments, then puts them together.

Did I say I love this book?

I read music like I speak Spanish - slowly. I like that Carr's examples are both in tablature and standard musical notation. I know enough musical notation to have a better overall understanding of the material through these examples. I feel really pleased that Mr. Carr explains the full and/or abbreviated chord shapes as he goes along, and the relation of the licks to these shapes up and down the neck. I am also pleased that the fretting hand "start" finger is often given when the material changes between chords or positions.

At first I thought the sound files were a wee bit fast. I've decided I like them as they are. I could use a "slow-downer" program, but I'm getting it as is! I put the CD sound files on my iPod, make a playlist with only the lesson I'm working on, continually looping the same tune until I'm ready to practice on my own.

So pleased with this book, and my other Joe Carr books. In over 30 years of guitar playing, much of it "stuck" in folk/three chord country songs and power chords, I'm making real progress.

My favorite guitar books ever! In Texas, our official state music is Western Swing and the official state instrument is guitar.

False advertising

The Amazon description for this says, "Western Swing master Joe Carr has transcribed the great guitar solos from the Bob Wills band and other greats and breaks them down note by note into useful licks that can be used to improvise original hot solos. Includes solos by western swing legends Eldon Shamblin, Jimmy Wyble, Leon Rhodes, Junior Benard (often called the first rockabilly) and more."

None of that is true. This book doesn't contain a single transcription of an actual solo played by any of those men. Rather, it contains several "in the style of" solos written by Joe Carr. Like many of these method books, the examples are very inferior to the real thing. Many of them sound awkward and atonal in places.

I gave the book three stars anyway because it does a good job of explaining some of the theory behind the style, so I think it's a useful instructional aid. But if you really want to learn tasty "take off" western swing solos, you'll still have to transcribe real ones on your own, and maybe transcribe recordings of yourself singing improvised solos over chord progressions, assuming that you're already familiar with the style by listening to it.

This book will help you understand the theory behind western swing, but don't expect it to teach you to actually play the style in a tasty manner. That's going to require a lot of additional work.

Great Book, Well Done..

Well written and clearly explained. The examples include both lead and rhythm aspects of Western Swing guitar. The book in only 48 pages so the while well done there are not a lot of examples given. Good basis for improvisation. I'd say beginner to itermediate or advanced players not familiar with Westen Swing.
