In order to call themselves good Christians, many people have drawn overly flexible boundaries (unwilling to say no, always accommodating others' needs) or overly rigid boundaries (to the point of being righteous and judgmental). Psychologists and inspirational speakers Cloud and Townsend show readers how to set reasonable boundaries in order to follow the true path of Christianity. This book has become immensely popular, most likely because it makes personal boundaries easier to define and is filled with spiritual purpose. Some cautions: the format can be overly self-helpish for such a complex discussion and the authors at one point imply that judicious spankings may be an acceptable form of setting boundaries with children. However, many Christians will probably find themselves grateful for this biblical context of boundaries. --Gail Hudson

Boundaries

I have not read such a good book like 'Boundaries' in such a long time and I purchased four of them to hand them out as it gives you such insight into how we can take control of our lives in being able to be honest with those around us when we choose to say "yes", or "no"; learning how to be real and be a friend to ourselves. When we are being used and manipulative by others comes down to our responsibility, not theirs, and we have no one to blame but ourselves if we let that happen. To not be a doormat is vital to our contentment, peace and happiness, and that takes effort on our part to learn what to do. Manipulation and guilt comes along and what do we do? we bend and give in and in the meantime and then we resent, which is not healthy! That is not God's way at all and it is all in our reach to learn how to take control and live.

Everyone should read this book

I can't say how much this book changed my life. It was eye-opening, sometimes in a way that scared me. It showed me things about myself and about others that have helped me live in a different way, and see things in a new way. It has freed me from some of the habits I have had since I was a child, simply by SHOWING those habits to me (I had never even understood them before). I am free now to proceed living in a way that God wants me to - to not feel as trapped as I once did by the opinions and whims of others, but to take control of my own life and choices, and to be responsible for them. I don't think there's a person in the world who wouldn't benefit from reading this book.

A Must-Read

This book is truly life-changing! Biblical examples to back up how not to be a door mat but remain or strive to be a good follower of Jesus Christ. I could not put the book down. I also ordered copies for 2 friends and my daughter.
