A wake up call

I found "Guardians.." to be very fascinating and a must read for anyone who wants to protect their freedom. It is a stepping stone to understanding policies/procedures that affect our health, wealth and very lives today. These people are real and they are very busy behind the scenes and only a few committed crusaders are bold enough to give us the truth. It is well written, the research is sound and I couldn't put it down. I couldn't sleep either. Read it.

Unbelievable Source of Strength for Career Growth!!

This book is simply incredible! I have read many self-help books over the years, and having been in the business world for all of those years, I have never seen both areas (self-help and career) integrated so well in one place. In "The Authentic Career" I was able to unlock how my career goals and personal needs could be aligned and fulfilled with the appropriate insights into my life. This book can really help individuals create the space to achieve this. Ms. Craddock's own experiences and using real examples of workplace issues were extremely helpful and enlightening. I could approach my job and career in a completely different light after reading and utilizing this book. The exercises were truly eye opening and I finally have found a process that makes sense for re-energizing and strategizing my career after many years. A great read for anyone who wants to find a new way to grow in their career and personal lives. Very helpful and inspirational!

One of the Best

This is one of the most readable environmental texts I've seen.

It is very comprehnsive and the coverage of the newest scientific results in the science of resource conservation is simply excellent. The content is oriented around a group of themes and applied to the concept of ecosystems and their management. Is almost as if the author has takrn the first halting steps toward a unified environmental theory.

Two negative points though. Coverage of forest resources is a little thin, and like most textbooks, the price is way too high.

A Classic of the Genre

Dr. Wright's text has really become a classic of the environmental science field for good reason: it elucidates the basic principles of environmental science with depth and readability. This tome is not in its 10th edition because it lacks merit. On the contrary, this text presents the relevant topics in a more organized and rigorous manner than any other on the shelf. Students gain a fundamental grounding in the topics and issues of this emerging field, no mean task considering their great breadth.

The reviewers who have rated this book poorly have done so largely based on personal political doctrine. These people have missed the point. If Dr. Wright (or any other scientist) expresses distate for the current administration's stance on environmental issues, it is precisely because this administration has ignored and censored valid science in furthering their political agenda. Compelling, Comprehensive, and Concise

This is certainly one of the most well-written upper level environmental science books I've come across. The written narrative is loaded with important information, concepts, and vocabulary, but is written in a way that is still accessable to the honors/AP level environmental science student. A great deal of data is presented in the book to reinforce the ideas presented. Even better, many of the graphs and other diagrams used offer a different angle than you see in most other environmental science texts.

The authors even have a few chapters covering issues generally not given much space in other texts. For example, an entire chapter covering pest management. This textbook is very much deserving to be looked at in the same light as the much-adopted Miller text.

Perfect holiday book for bicultural children and families :)

I was hesitant on buying this book since it didn't have any reviews, but I'm so happy I did! As a bicultural family this book was perfect for us since we leave cookies for Santa, and grass for the camels; hence celebrating both Christmas, and Three Kings Day.

This is a delightful book on how both ended up in the same house on the same day! Normally Santa comes on the eve of Christmas (12/25), and the Three Kings on the eve of the Epiphany (1/6). However, the little girl who writes to them had other plans! With so many duplicate gifts (she wrote the same letter to both); she learns a lesson; and keeps only what she needs. This book is a keeper!

About the Author

Steven Olson has been a software developer for 20 years, starting in 1984 with ForTran, Pascal, Basic, and, later, C at a company called Signetics. In 1991, he went to work for Novell, writing C. He began dabbling in Java, and in 1995 was one of the first to join the Java development group at Novell. Since then, he has consulted or worked directly for eight other companies writing primarily in Java. Currently, he works for logoworks.com, where his programming adventures continue.

Brings responsiveness to your Java web applications

With Ajax, you can build web applications that have a quick response but lack the overhead of keeping the user current with the latest software. This book introduces you to Ajax by illustrating how to create such responsive applications on the server side in a Java environment. The reader should be a Java programmer with web application experience and a knowledge of working with Java servlets, HTML, and JavaScript. Struts, XML, and JavaServer Faces are mentioned in the later chapters, and to understand those chapters you should understand those technologies too.

The first chapter shows you how to install Apache Ant and the servlet container, Tomcat. Next the book shows you the complete HTML and JavaScript code for your first Ajax application, a simple web page that displays the decimal value of any character. This example is then broken apart and examined piece by piece. The third chapter focuses on the backend of what was written in the previous chapter, which is the Java servlet that provides the client with the information it needs. Thus, a servlet is created that converts the user keystroke to decimal and sends the resulting data back to the client. Chapter four is about XML and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) for Ajax. Besides illustrating how XML makes it easy to parse data coming from the server, this chapter also demonstrates how to use JSON, a native JavaScript data representation that can be more convenient than XML. The example in chapter four returns five pieces of data instead of just one. This highlights the need for XML to structure the data that is being sent from server to client.

Next, the book deals with the ubiquitous Order-entry application using Google Suggest as a model. You learn to write web applications that tell users immediately when they have requested usernames that are already in use, that fill in a city and state automatically on the basis of a zip code, and that make it simpler to enter the names of entities that already exist in the database. Up to this point in the book, XMLHttpRequest has been used to send requests to the server and set up callback methods to intercept the responses coming back from the server. Next the book uses ready-made libraries and toolkits to build the request object and set up the callback function. Using a toolkit also eliminates the separate code that handles Internet Explorer and the other browsers. The toolkits examined are the Dojo Toolkit, Rico Toolkit, DWR Toolkit, Scriptaculous, and Prototype. In chapters five and six, code was developed that enabled the finding of city and state information based on a user-entered zip code. Next the book shows how to add this feature to a tag library, encapsulating the details of the Ajax code.

Chapter eight investigates two approaches to adding Ajax features to Struts applications. One uses Struts-Layout, which implements some Ajax features. The second method uses the DWR library that was first introduced in chapter six. This chapter isn't a tutorial on or introduction to Struts, though. Next, the book turns to the subject of JavaServer Faces (JSF) and presents one way to add Ajax to a JSF application by using a custom JSF component. The Ajax request is shown being processed from the viewpoint of the JSF lifecycle. Instead of writing HTML or JSPs, or JSF pages combined with JavaScript, with Java servlets or JSF components to handle the server side of the application, the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) lets you write the whole application, from client to server, in Java. It generates all the JavaScript automatically, based on the Java code you write. You still need to write some HTML, but GWT provides skeleton HTML as a starting point. GWT also handles all cross-browser issues for you. It also eases the chore of debugging. This chapter provides a pretty good tutorial for the GWT.

I thought this book did a good job of showing how Ajax technology can make Java web applications more responsive. Just remember that if you are not familiar with technologies such as JavaServer Faces, Struts, or XML, you will need some outside sources on these topics as no tutorial is included.

Good, thorough review of the basics with extensize examples

Ajax on Java is exactly what you need when you want to try Ajax out, with Java, in a hurry. I have read through it completely and have tried more than half of the example projects and found it to be a great resource to get me started toward using Ajax right away in our shop. One of the things I like best about this book is that it emphasizes doing the work needed to learn the material. I am a fan of the 'see one, do one, teach one' school of learning and this book fits that methodology perfectly. There may be thicker, wordier and more comprehensive books on Ajax but I am willing to bet (figure of speech, please, no offers to wager are actually intended!) that none of them will do as good a job as Ajax on Java did for me.

Save Your Money

Sad to say, this book is little more than a code dump, and the code does not run without debugging.

There are no explanations of technologies and concepts that surround Ajax, therefore, given the state of the code, there is not a lot of reason to work through the book. In fact, this is the first computer book that I returned to the seller, simply because I found so little reason to keep it on my bookshelf.

The writing in the introductory chapter gives promise, but as the book progresses the code quickly becomes dense and the organization and writing becomes unacceptably thin. I expected more from O'Reilly.

Before I gave up on this book, I was half way through it, and only one code set had ran correctly from build on. For example, the author's code has at least four variations of the basic application URL sprinkled among the Javascript and build files of the first four examples. Finding and correcting the URL was annoying but not difficult, but even after that, the examples did not run without further debugging.

I finally threw up my hands and surrendered... defeated by the author's rush to publication.

FRANK PELLEGRINO, SR. is the proprietor and nightly host at the famous Rao’s Restaurant in New York. He was born and raised on East Harlem. In 1992, Frank founded Rao’s Specialty Foods to produce and sell the highest quality gourmet products. His previous books include The Rao’s Cookbook and Rao’s Recipes from the Neighborhood. Frank lives in Long Island with his wife.

FRANK PELLEGRINO Jr. is a co-owner of the Rao’s restaurant franchise and the author of Rao’s Cookbook, Rao’s Recipes from the Neighborhood, and Rao’s On the Grill. He is also an actor who portrayed FBI agent Frank Cubitoso in HBO’s The Sopranos. Pellegrino is the founder and CEO of Rao’s Specialty Foods, Inc. He lives in Long Island.

Other Italian cookbooks provide better recipes

I'm a good new York Italian style cook to begin with but I looked forward to receiving this cookbook and trying the recipes from the famous NY eatery. As I leafed thru the pages I noted the recipes seem fairly mundane. I decided to try the meatball recipe as it depicted a difference from the way I make meatballs. The recipe calls for adding plain breadcrumbs instead of seasoned and up to two cups of water to the mixture a quarter cup at a time as the final step before shaping in to balls. My fear that adding water to the mixture would result in a loose meatball without flavor was confirmed. After cooking I added the meatballs to my sauce. They disintegrated after 10 minutes of simmering. The book relies too much on remembrance story telling. Lots of other Italian cookbooks provide better recipes. I recommend taking a pass.

Watched Raos son on Fallon tonight. There been some dispute going on in Rao family. I miss the old man. Now has restaurants at Cesar's place and LA. I THINK the book from 2000 was better ratting on 2000 book.

My name is Shirley and I just finished reading your book Final Passage. I loved it! I heard your interview on a local radio show a few weeks ago and you were discussing your book and it sounded very interesting to me. I lost my mother a year and a half ago to cancer and have been a little lost and confused since then. I wish I would have educated myself on the dying process before my mother died. I'm sure it would have made things easier. I feel better after reading your book. I was with my mother when she passed and I've always wondered what it was like for her in those last few moments. I believe your book shed some light on that for me. I was glad I could be there for her when she passed but it was really hard to watch. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your book.

Very helpful book

I got my copy of "Final Passage" and sat down and read it in one day. Barbara Whitfield was so right about it being full of "aha's". I used a whole box of kleenex that day; it was emotionally wrenching, but I couldn't put it down. I have loaned it to my step-daughter (my husband,her dad died of cancer in 2001). She is having a very difficult time reading it because of the emotions it brings up, so she is taking one chapter at a time with lots of time in between.
I went ahead and ordered another copy along with "Spiritual Awakenings" I just started reading it and haven't had time to read much, but I wanted to say Barbara's books are very helpful for understanding some of life's difficult issues.

Good reading !

The author handles a subject that is so hard to talk about, let alone write about. She takes us along when she visits loved ones, friends and patients before they die. She shares word for word the conversations of these people who in most cases wanted total honesty. Because of her writing, I was able to face the same situation without stiffling myself and my feelings. Anything my dying relative and anything I wanted to say -- is said thanks to her frank writing. A must read.

Mary, I want to know more!

Mary's book is very well written; she tells her story in a way that you would sit down and talk to a dear friend. She is in no way preachy, judgmental, or condescending of anyone, Mary simply tells her story with compassion to alert and warn people of exactly what they are opening themselves to if they are dabbling with the occult. Just a little dabble do you. :-) People need to know there is an unseen dimension that the Bible tells us is even more real than the physical world we see and live in. There is a war raging in that dimension and is spilling over into this world faster than lightening, but the Church was lulled to sleep over the last 50 years and is now comatose.

I have also listened to several interviews that Mary has done, and you can tell in her voice that she is just a genuinely loving and caring person. Again, like she is talking to you as a good friend. I highly recommend this book and urge those who would like to know more to search out her interviews on YouTube.

Just finished reading the book. It is an auto-biographical account of one woman's struggle with her experience as a programmed multiple and her victory in Jesus over the powers of darkness. The book is engaging, informative and is a quick read. The vitriol of the one star "review" is unfounded and I doubt if that individual even read the book. The book will definitely leave you thinking and praying.

I am a Christian living amidst a large coven of witches, and needed information on the finer points of how to deal with this type of paganism. For example, the Bible instructs us to "love our neighbor as ourselves," but did this mean I had to allow witches into my home merely to be nice?? Mary Lou Lake's book provides you the answers to those types of questions, AND MUCH MORE. In fact, I share with Mary many of the experiences she had with her local witches to the degree it is downright eerie. Seeing UFOs and having airplanes fly low over my home are but 2 examples we both have experienced. Yes, UFOs are witchcraft. In fact, on many of the occasions when I saw UFOs I was unwittingly in the presence of witches and I have NO doubt my witch neighbors were "conjuring up" these UFOs for me to see. Though I've read biographies of FORMER witches looking for this type of information, I had not found it in their books. Mary Lou Lake gives not only examples of her experiences, but also offers sound BIBLICAL DOCTRINE on how to manage the witchcraft being directed to Christians. I have found no other book even remotely similar or covering the topics Mary Lou does, as well as offering the answers. In this, Mary Lou's book is 100% unique. Therefore, if you've had bizarre, inexplicable incidents happen to you over the course of your life, you might want to consider that much of it was witchcraft.

My mother was married to 2 men (though not my father) who were high level freemasons and not at any time in her life did she realize her husbands were practicing "the craft," which is what witchcraft is called in freemasonry. Strange events from my childhood 50 years ago are only NOW making sense knowing that witchcraft was involved. It's only been in the last 2 years that I've learned freemasonry is satanism and witchcraft combined, before believing freemasonry was simply a "civic" organization. The the lower degrees of freemasonry may still believe that, it is anything BUT CIVIC.

In summary, I can't type enough positive accolades about Mary Lou's book. It has not only been a blessing to me, but has helped me in my walk with God and Jesus Christ. And even if you don't believe you HAVE YET been targeted by witches or witchcraft, in theses End Times, I consider it crucial to know what Satan's children are capable of and how to combat it, for we ALL will be seeing strange things/events and need to know how to fight them with Biblical knowledge. Mary Lou's book provides much of that knowledge.

Lastly, have you heard of the CERN reactor in Switzerland? Many Christians believe this has been built solely to open portals by which demons can enter our dimension and be seen in our realm. I think they may be right. If true, Mary Lou's book is ever more valuable to read and learn.
