An Excellent Activity Book With A Cheerful Vibe and Lots of Interesting Info

We mostly wanted this book as an activity book, and it serves that purpose very well. It is not in color and is not a "picture" book as such.

It certainly presents a lot of info about the night sky, the solar system, individual planets, and so on, but the underlying emphasis is to get kids thinking about "the universe" and the fact that there is a lot "there" out there. So, you get sections that just drive home the idea of big numbers and long distances, and what far-away means. You get gravity and what an orbit is. There's a little physics, some planetary science, some astronomy, some astrophysics - but that's all in the service of just getting a young scientist thinking about all of the wonders of "space".

There aren't many make-it-yourself projects. The activities are mostly in the form of puzzles, mazes, crosswords, and coded and encrypted phrases. that have to be deciphered. The book is printed on paper similar to elementary school workbook paper and puzzles can be solved by filling in blanks on the pages. (Some of the puzzles are tricky; answers are provided on the last few pages.) But don't get the idea that this is just a dry workbook. There are punchy asides, factoids and tidbits in the margins, helpful drawings, some silly drawings, and lots of illustrations of kids doing things. There are a fair number of jokes, some silly and some pretty sharp, but nothing is in that sappy "dummies" style.

The feeling is one of honest fun, with a bit of rah-rah, and a lot of energy. The activities are designed and intended to draw a kid reader into the subject matter, and the mix of play, puzzle and learning struck us as just right. A nice choice.

An "Out Of This World" Book

I am a Home Hospital teacher working with special needs children. This book was worth the wait (3 weeks for delivery). It is full of interesting facts, fun hands-on activities, and questions to stir a child's imagination and natural curiosity. Activities are appropriate for school-aged children of all ability levels with some modifications.
It would have been even better if it had included some colorful pictures to capture the attention of the younger reader/listener. The cover is very colorful and bright but the interior is quite dull to look at. Providing vivid visuals from other sources to compliment the text helped maintain my students interest.
This book would provide hours of educational fun for children and their parents to share together; great "family night" activities.

Good book, but not in color

good book as far as the content goes but i was disappointed that it isn't in color. not sure why a kids book wouldn't be. i bought it as a christmas gift to accompany a telescope for my 6 year old. i'll be looking for another one that is in color shortly. i haven't decided whether or not i'll keep it yet since it does have activities in it, but the lack of color makes it feel more like a school workbook vs. something fun and extracurricular.

About the Author

Bill Warner holds a PhD in physics and math. He has been a university professor businessman, and applied physicist.

Dr. Warner s training in scientific theory and mathematics shaped how he analyzed Islamic doctrine. The first step was realizing that the Islamic texts had been made deliberately difficult to read and comprehend. A program, the Trilogy Project, was created to strip away the confusion in the texts. It became clear that Islam is not constructed on the same civilizational principles as the rest of the world. Simple statistical methods revealed that dualism and submission were the foundational principles of Islamic doctrine.

Dr. Warner founded the Center for the Study of Political Islam (CSPI) and is its director. He has produced a dozen books, including a Koran, a biography of Mohammed and a summary of the political traditions of Mohammed. He also developed the first self-study course on Political Islam.

A MUST read for all legislators, law enforcment, clergy, public servants, etc.

This book is an excellent, MUST read expose on Sharia Law that will take you from zero to knowing more about Sharia Law (Islamic Law) and political Islam than 98% of the American public. I strongly urge all legislators, public servants, law enforcement and clergy (and anyone else who cares about this threat) to get this "silver bullet" of knowledge that is all resource based and tightly composed. There is zero fluff or opinion in this book. It is incredibly easy to read and serves as an excellent resource for educating others on this topic. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the greatest threat facing America and the civilized nations of the world.

The only supremacist "religion"

This book is a first-rate introduction to Islam where the rubber hits the road -- real life. The bottom line is that Islam, unlike the other great religions of the world, is also a 1,400-year-old political ideology governing every aspect of a person's life.

But Islam is unique amongst the major religions for another reason.

Judaism and the Dharmic religions of Hinduism and Buddhism are not doctrinally universalistic, meaning that one does not need to be an adherent to go to Heaven or to be saved. Thus, for example, Judaism teaches that the righteous of all nations have a place in the world-to-come. Christianity, in contrast, is universalistic, in that by-and-large most Christian sects believe that being a believer is a precondition to going to Heaven and attaining personal salvation. Islam is likewise universalistic, BUT IT IS ALSO SUPREMACIST, in that Islam holds that the whole world must eventually "submit" ("Islam" means submit, by the way) to it, either by non-violent conversion efforts ("Da'wa") or else by war in the name of Allah ("Jihad"). Hence, of all the world religions, only Islam is supremacist!

For example, a Jewish Orthodox rabbi couldn't care less if a gentile is enjoying a ham sandwich in his presence in a public place, as the Jewish dietary laws only apply to Jews. An observant Muslim, however, considers pork as "nejis", physically and spiritually unclean/filthy, and would prefer that no-one consume it in his presence. Jewish law for many centuries specifically holds that "The law of the land is the law"; in other words, Jewish civil and penal law is generally trumped by the law of the polity where Jews reside. In contrast, the Sharia holds that Islamic law and Sharia norms are ideal and should -- preferably -- be the supreme law of the land.

Once one understands this, this brilliant little book gives one tremendous insight into world geopolitics (e.g., why is it that 90%+ of transnational and intra-state terrorism throughout the world is carried out by Muslims?) as well as Islamism in America:

Islam's religion always has a political component that must be
accomodated. As a contrasting example, there are as many Buddhists who
have come to America just as Muslims have. Can you name a single
political demand that Buddhists have made in the schools or any other
area? Do you know of a case where Buddhists have made demands for
coming into schools, businesses, law enforcement or hospitals and
making demands that we learn about Buddhism and accommodate
Buddhist practices? No, because Buddhism is a religion, not a
political/religious ideology.

Outstanding Manual

This book, manual if you will, should be familiar to all patriotic Americans. At only 44 pages before the Appendix, it reduces immeasurably any excuse for not reading it and sharing it. The prophet of Islam, Muhammad, according to the Quran, was a perfect man who led a perfect life, and all Muslims must emulate him. His life became a sunna of Islam and therefore his way of life was integrated into the legal system,the sharia. The sharia is not for non-Muslims, they are recognized as Dhimmis--3rd class citizens at best. For instance, a Muslim is not subject to retaliation for killing a non-Muslim [o.1.1 (2)]. By the way, on the same page of the law, one also finds: parents are not subject to retaliation for killing their offspring or their offsprings' offspring. [o1.1 (4) ].

In the Introduction, the authors report that in Sweden, rape investigations do not continue once the police find that the evidence points to Muslim involvement. Sweden is now awash with rapes in which the victims are on their own. The Netherlands was almost gone and Sweden may go any day because of leadership with little or no backbone or understanding of Islam itself.

The book's first words in the Introduction may be portentous if we do not learn about Islam and teach our leadership: "When you study Islam in Europe today, you are seeing America on 20 years. Why? The actions by Muslims in Europe are based on Sharia Law, the same Sharia Law that is beginning to be implemented in America today."

Strong on narrative; relatively weak on procedures

This book would have been more welcome had it not arrived at the same time as Harry Rinker's "Sell, Keep, or Toss?"

Hall's book has lots of encouraging narrative (stories) about the need for planning, and methods, and working through problems. Lots of rationale, and thought. And some methods for clearing a house.

On the other hand, Rinker's book has far more rules of thumb/guidelines, and explanation of methods to dispose of goods, and detailed advice; very much more practical: focusing on the disposal process.

I can see where you could benefit from one book or the other or both, but the distinction should be clear.

Julie wrote a book that does more than talk about dealing with your parents stuff. She helps you look at care for your parents, how their transition effects you and your entire family. She also shows you how to help you manage your own estate before it is your kids dealing with what you have left them with. My siblings and I all read the book after our parents passed. We read it before we met and this made our conversation about what to do next so much easier. We can proudly say we are in the 20%.

She covers so many years of life - preparing to take care of elderly parents, managing their estate after they're gone, getting your own affairs in order. About the Author

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Terry Dubrow obtained degrees in medical sciences from Yale University in 1980 and the UCLA School of Medicine in 1986. He completed a�residency in general surgery, became chief resident in surgery at the�Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, and completed a plastic and reconstructive fellowship�at the UCLA Medical Center in and went into private practice in 1993. He has authored more than 30 articles published in�peer-reviewed journals and has lectured extensively to professional groups in surgery. A�fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is certified�by The American�Board of Plastic Surgery and is also a certified expert for the California Medical�Board, working extensively since 2000 as an expert in medical malpractice. He is the author of The Acne Cure and writes extensively about health and wellness.

�� Dr. Dubrow has been showcased as the surgical expert on several television shows including Fox Network’s The Swan, where he performed and helped coordinate extensive contestant transformations, E! Entertainment TV’s Bridalplasty, where he was the surgeon; and since 2013, he has been the star of E!’s hit show, Botched. Dubrow was also one of the three hosts of the network’s show Good Work. Heather Kent Dubrow grew up in Westchester County, NY, and attained her BFA in Musical Theater at Syracuse University. Her extensive acting career includes film, stage, and series regular roles on many television shows including Jenny, Stark Raving Mad, That's Life, and�Sequestered. After joining the cast in season seven, she became, and still is, one of the most popular stars of Bravo’s hit series, The Real Housewives of Orange County. Heather has appeared with her husband in the Dr. and Mrs. Guinea Pig segments of the E! Entertainment TV show, Good Work.

�� As a singer, Heather has toured as the star performer with a fourteen-piece big band and she sang the theme song to CBS's That’s Life. She is also an accomplished television host with credits ranging from newsrooms to talk shows, including the recent Botched Post Op, after-show. Since the fall of 2015, she has been conquering the podcast world with “Heather Dubrow's World” on Podcast One, that premiered at #3 on the iTunes charts for North America and to date is their number one female podcase with over five million downloads and millions of subscribers.

The Dubrows also developed and created the skincare line, Consult Beaute, that is the fastest growing beauty brand on the Evine shopping channel. Heather lives with Terry and their four children in Newport Beach, California.

I was so excited to get this book since I am a huge fan of both Heather and Dr Dubrow. It really didn't have any new information that I haven't heard from their interviews or watching Botched.

Heather recommends lame old school things like greatlash maybeline mascara. Really? I wanted some real updated information on actual new products. Doesn't happen here.
