The 1st book the Kingmakers is still the best.

worst of the three. Use of fantasy elements in creating fictional characters like Conrad of Elldon and Horado of Kaladon takes away a lot from the quality of the book. This one seems too rushed. Here the plot seems way too contrived and most importantly the constant consistent attention on the leprosy and the repeated descriptions of its progress, followed inevitably by the King's constant self-deprecating attitude which never changes, leads to the book becoming highly monotonous especially after reading 2 earlier parts. I bought the 3 books yesterday and finished them already. I did this because I was able to skip through a lot of parts in the book which dealt with King's leprosy treatments and the King's weakness and his prayers asking for divine assistance in always the same manner. Pretty one-dimensional.

Story started to drag

Series started out great, but over time, I felt like it's getting less and less like a historical fiction and more like an outright fiction with historical references. Too many coincidences. Didn't like how a new person magically appears to act as a guardian every time an old one goes. This story has reached the point where I think the plot is stretched too thin and too many fillers are being added to extend the plot. A trilogy should have been more than enough to complete this series.

Through the book he gives very practical insights on how the brain works, and how it fundamentally determines our reality.
With no pretensions and with a simple, clear, and very friendly tone, he just shares what he has discovered and experienced in his own life. Giving the feeling of a simple friend talking to another simple friend.
The result is a very valuable information coupled with very practical brain tools, and for once the title of the book says it all, because it does exactly and simply what it says it does.

this is an interesting book written by a dedicated spiritual seeker. It sheds light on the potential of our brain in either seriving or sabotaging our happiness. The explanation on brain and its functions give me insights into the phenomenon why some ACIM (a course in miracles) practitioners sometimes experience ' attack from the ego' and why the american master lester levenson said 'feelings only lie' . About the Author
Peter Fotis Kapnistos is a Greek American journalist, editor, and publisher residing in the Eastern Mediterranean islands. Peter was editor for the “Athens News,” Greece’s oldest English-language daily newspaper. In cooperation with the Associated Press and Apple computers, Peter oversaw the making of “Greece Today,” one of the first direct online English-language desktop published tabloids in the Near East. Peter helped to introduce public access to the Internet in the east Aegean islands by establishing a number of Internet cafes there. Peter Fotis Kapnistos worked under Professor Spyridon Marinatos, the archaeologist who excavated the ruins of Akrotiri on the island of Thera (Santorini). Peter was the assistant of Spiros Tsavdaroglou, an administrative photographer for the National Archaeological Museum of Greece. Peter also assisted the team that photographed the royal tomb of Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, discovered in the 1980s by the archaeologist Manolis Andronicus.

Extracts of this report (from Peter’s BlackRaiser website) were referred to in A.J. Hartley’s “The Mask of Atreus” (2006). New York Times bestselling novelist A.J. Hartley is a distinguished professor of Shakespeare at UNC Charlotte. The thriller focuses on Greek myths, artifacts and Nazis. Step Into the Hidden Side of History...

This is a 545 pg. read- so it's quite a big book (with very nice production values), which means there's a lot of information here.

This book comes on the heels of "Hitler in Argentina: The Documented Truth of Hitler's Escape from Berlin" (Harry Cooper), "Hunting Hitler: New Scientific Evidence That Hitler Escaped Nazi Germany" (Jerome Corsi), and a couple others; and hit before the new History Channel series "Hunting Hitler." So, it is a hot subject right now.

Though it has long been rumored that Hitler used doubles, the full extent of that has never been documented. In combination with the liklihood that Hitler did not die in that bunker, starts getting into territory where most people don't feel comfortable. I remember hearing back in the 1970s that Hitler escaped from Germany and went to South America. But most people attribute talk like that as conspiracy theory. However, people that feel that way are usually people who don't understand history, and their mindset stems from the worldview they get from their High School history class. Believe me, public education does not teach you the truth of what has really happened in history. What you see in history books has nothing to do with what really happened behind the scenes.

After "Hitler's Doubles" fills you in on the 'doubles,' it then starts giving you background on the Nazi war machine, and delves into the occult aspects, the technology that gave them an edge, military motives and gives you a foundation of what was going on in Germany at that time. The author also gives you some biographical background on Hitler that gives you a high-level view that goes far beyond what you've been told in history class. So, you begin to get more of a feel for Hitler's motives and what he was planning to do; and why the Nazis were going to South America.

To believe that it wasn't Hitler's body that was photographed and then burned, becomes a whole lot easier to accept after the author makes a step-by-step presentation about the powers that be in this world that have actually controlled world events. When you see their handywork in the creation of the Federal Reserve, and later the United Nations, and what they are actually positioned to do; then you start getting a feel of what could actually be possible. If you're not familiar with the hidden side of history, this book is a historic tour-de-force. Being the author of a book about one-world government, I've researched the subject for 40 years; but for someone who has never been exposed to the truth, it will be shocking to learn what you will read here. I love the little rabbit-trails that gives you more background material that helps you understand the subject as a whole. In that regard, it's kind of a fun book because it's so overwhelming, and you just don't know where the author is going to go next. It is hard to put down because of that.

The only negative here, is something I've been guilty of myself. Because Mr. Kapnistos presents so much information, there's a couple places where information is duplicated, and could have been organized a little better. However, there's just so much here, that it negates that little oversight. For all the research I've done, I found plenty of gems here that I did not know.

This book will blow your mind and give you a more indepth perspective of various historical events. So, if you're ready to go down the rabbit hole, you won't go wrong with this book.

A Very Confusing Book.

This book is poorly organized. approximately 1/4 actually deals with Hitler's Double's. The rest is a random assortment of information. which has little to do with the main subject. It is often repetitive. Also injected, are pieces of a fictional narrative which is confusing. There are no definite chapters. I have the feeling that the author realized that the book is confusing because he offers a summary at the end about each double. The information regarding the doubles is very good. However, the evidence is very persuasive that Hitler did escape.

The "Bridge Tender," a courtroom drama, is a smoldering tale of murder, intrigue, and suspense set in the town of Mandeville during the first fall of the Civil War. To prosecute the bridge tender, the town brings in a native son, a handsome Confederate naval officer. As the trial unfolds, dark secrets spill out into the open as steadily and implacably as the little blue river that runs through the center of the town spills out into the sea. A different kind of civil war soon breaks out among the citizens of Mandeville, especially when they learn that the bridge tender is pregnant with a child whose birth will turn their way of life upside down.

Excellent Historical Fiction

I loved the very Southern feel and the Civil War setting of this book. The author deals with the heartbreaking issues of slavery and the laws relevant to that disgraceful institution. The descriptions of the area are wonderfully detailed, the characters & events are realistic and sometimes very humorous, the love story is compelling, and the ending is haunting. Bottom Line: The Bridge Tender is a great read!

I enjoy books both fiction and non fiction that has the Civil War as part of the story and having read another book by this author that I enjoyed I bought and downloaded to Kindle.

The characters are both loathsome and wonderful....my favorite being Mrs.Pondicherry, I can only hope I grow old to be just like her.
It has been a long time since I finished a book with tears streaming down my cheeks and an ache in my heart.
My only wish is for the author to write a sequel....I want to know what happened to all, both the loathesome ones and the wonderful ones.

Described as a civil war courtroom drama, I found it so much more than that. Author Gary Landry has a gift for painting a picture with words that makes you feel like you're there as it happens. This book is part history, part love story, part thrilling mystery. I couldn't put it down until the end and I wasn't disappointed. If you enjoy a book that draws you in and won't let you go, this is the book for you. It was so good that I couldn't wait to see what happened and I hated to see it end.

About the Author
Ian Todd is a founding Managing Director and Marine Science Consultant at OSC, and is undertaking part-time postgraduate research in harbour porpoise (and other marine mammal) interactions with offshore installations and the environment at ISVR (PhD, Southampton University, UK). He holds degrees in Marine Resource, Development & Protection (NERC-funded MSc scholarship, Heriot-Watt University, UK) and Business & Economics (BCom with Honours, Edinburgh University, UK), various diplomas including Marine Engineering (HND, Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, UK), and a Marine Engineering Officer Certificate of Dual Competency (Class IV Steam and Motor Plants, Maritime & Coastguard Agency, UK). As a former Third Engineer Officer (including Health and Safety Officer) in the Merchant Navy, Mr Todd served deep-sea and worldwide with P&O Nedlloyd, then the world's largest container-shipping company. He organises and supervises visual and acoustic surveys of marine mammals worldwide for scientific, commercial and defence contracts. Mr Todd's research interests are as per OSC's core research topics, but include distance sampling, and his current scientific duties are similar to Dr Victoria Todd, but include recruitment, procurement, logistics, finance, brand development, environmental risk assessments, and Health & Safety (H&S).

Great, timeless adventure story

This is an outstanding book for those who enjoy stories loaded with adventure and intrigue. I've read many Alistar MacLean novels and enjoyed every one.

What I find quite stunning is one reviewer claims MacLean's depiction of the Japanese Military of the time is "racist" while another says MacLean depicts the Japanese conquerors as "savage monsters". I've got news for you...they were indeed savage, brutal monsters. Many of the leaders of the Japanese Imperial Army during those times were the most rabid of racists. The reviewers obviously have never spent time in SE Asia and talked to any of the inhabitants that were alive during the Japanese occupation of those countries. They'll be the first to tell you how absolutely cruel and brutal the Japanese Army truly was. These reviewers have no idea of the incredible hardships imposed by the ruthless Japanese conquerors on the people of Viet Nam, the Phillipines, Malaysia, Burma, Thailand, etc. I look at such reviews as incredibly naive.

Talk to a survivor of the Bataan Death March about the humanity of the Japanese Army. Wake Island was captured shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. When food supplies started to run scarce on the island, the Japanese lined up a large group of American civilian contractors they had taken prisoner and shot them all to death on the beach. The non-racist Japanese convinced the civilians living on many of the islands they had conquered not to surrender themselves to the Americans who the claimed would enslave them and torture them to death. They ordered those people to hurl themselves off tall cliffs and kill themselves rather than surrender to the Americans. Unfortunately countless numbers of those civilians believed the Japanese and followed their orders. Savage, brutal monsters indeed!

Well-executed adventure

I always loved Alistair MacLean novels. For adventure, I found him to be one of the most consistent and satisfying authors out there. This is one of his best. It has twists and turns, as always, but is also a bit more harrowing than some of his other novels. All of which sets everything up nicely for a great denouement.

Fall from grace...

Alistair Maclean's ambitious 1958 adventure novel "South by Java Head" is set against the fall of the British stronghold of Singapore to the Imperial Japanese Army in February 1942. A motley and desperate collection of soldiers, nurses, civilians, a small boy, and even a spy attempt to escape by sea aboard a tramp steamer. Nothing will be easy for the refugees, who survive the sinking of two ships by Japanese war planes and end up in open life boats in the South China Sea. Although they don't realize it, they are also at risk from a traitor or traitors in their midst...

"South by Java Head" was master storyteller Maclean's third novel, and it is a bit uneven. There is some good work here: Maclean evokes the dying City of Singapore with a haunting quality that will stay with the reader. The plot has the twists and turns that would become a Maclean trademark. The hero, First Officer Johnny Nicholson, is a tough but honorable man, nearly equal to every crisis. Unfortunately, Maclean tries to pack too much into the storyline. There are too many characters, facing one crisis after another. The secret that is the source of at least some of the trouble in the story hardly seems worth it when finally revealed, nor does Maclean put much effort into a brief romance for the hero. The Japanese are portrayed as two-dimensional monsters.

"South by Java Head" is recommended to Maclean's fans, who are likely to overlook the novel's faults for the chance of an entertaining tale of the Second World War.
